Jacob Dudman said: “My favourite part of doing Doctor Who is always the emotional beats, rather than just running around trying to save the day and all of that other stuff that we love about the show.
“But to me as an actor, I find the most interesting thing is playing the humanity, for want of a better word, of the relationships, particularly between the Doctor and their companion. The Doctor and Valarie go really well together.”
Safiyya Ingar said: “With Jake, I remember when we first met and we were recording. We came out for lunch and someone asked, ‘So how long have you guys known each other?’ And we were like, ‘We just met three hours ago,’ and it was the most rewarding feeling to just know that we already had a rapport from the off.
“There are moments where Jake feels like I can give it a little bit more, and he tells me I should just go for it in studio, and he will too – we bounce off of each other like that. It ends up being the most authentic thing, with real and raw emotion. And then we always give each other a little hug afterwards. Job well done!
"Working with Mia is always an absolute joy and a privilege. She’s so wonderful, and so open and giving. We match each other’s energy really well. When we come into record, we just give each other the biggest hug and have a lovely catch-up.
“I think it really comes through in Valarie and Roanna’s relationship, and I always look forward to being with her in the booth. We always stand opposite each other, so we can look into each other’s eyes while we’re saying our lines to one another and I think it’s beautiful.”
Producer Alfie Shaw added: “Mia and Safiyya had such a wonderful rapport - both on and off the mic - that reuniting them and picking up that thread from The Yearn was a must for this set. We've done the meeting and we're now on to their first proper date. Obviously, this is Doctor Who, so it doesn't exactly go to plan...
“This box set is about finding hope in bleak situations, and I would say it’s the darkest set of stories in the series.
“Happily, the reaction has been very positive. I’ve heard people who aren’t massive fans of the Eleventh Doctor’s television era say they’re enjoying our audio run. So that’s incredibly rewarding and all down to the brilliant work of our cast and crew.”
