England, 1913. The horizon is darkening with the prospect of war when Dr John Watson confronts embattled Prime Minister Jasper Cranfield with evidence of a crime that has been spread over decades.

A sequence of interconnected mysteries, from the fate of a music hall murderer, to a man driven mad by a worm unknown to science, to a bizarre and sinister society which meets in a furniture warehouse - these untold cases hint at something larger. What is the purpose of the enigmatic organisation which calls itself 'The Lighthouse'?

How much does the Prime Minister know? Is Sherlock Holmes truly retired? And what final confrontation do they face?

Behind the scenes at Sherlock Holmes Untold

Writer Jonathan Barnes said: "Working on all of these Holmes stories has been an absolute labour of love. I've been a huge Holmes fan since I was a small boy. So to get the chance to come in and play again, get that toybox out and put them together in interesting and new configurations - it's always a real pleasure."

Lead actor Nicholas Briggs added: "This series of Sherlock Holmes has had such a cracking story. It's real edge of your seat stuff. And it's got a modern sensibility in it, even though it is set from the late 1800s up to 1913.

"There are some eternal themes of human frailty and political machinations. It's not just a dry old-fashioned story. There's a real driving force of conspiracy and the horrible underbelly of politics and the manipulation of people. It's got everything that a modern crime thriller has as well, but with the extra zest of that vintage setting.

"It’s a really good jumping on point; if youre listening to this and haven't heard any of our previous ones, then there are plenty more before this, so you might like to go back and have a listen to those. We did The Hound of the Baskervilles, for example - can't miss that!"
