This Week at Big Finish
Catch up on a week of news and reveals from the worlds of Big Finish
Unless you've been trapped in a Stormcage for the last week or so, you've probably heard the news that we have a new Doctor in the house. Star of Alien, The Elephant Man, The Naked Civil Servant and, most importantly, The Day of the Doctor, John Hurt is returning to the role of the War Doctor!
The secret incarnation of our favourite Time Lord is recording twelve all-new adventures in space and time – all taking place within the legendary Last Great Time War. The first box-set of three adventures, Only the Monstrous by Nicholas Briggs, will be available in December 2015 – co-starring Jacqueline Pearce as the calculating Cardinal Ollistra. You can pre-order the War Doctor saga today either individually, or as part of a special bundle.
You can also hear the man himself speak on his return to the TARDIS in our new Big Finish podcast – click the player below to listen now!
But it won't just be the War Doctor heading into the Time War. Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor will also enter the fray in a prequel box-set – Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor - The Time War. Released in November 2017, this new set will reveal the earliest days of the Skaro-Gallifrey war and feature characters from the War Doctor's adventures.
For a more peaceful visit to Gallifrey (well – relatively peaceful), you can also pre-order Gallifrey: Enemy Lines, the next instalment in our eternally-popular Doctor Who spin-off. Starring Lalla Ward, Louise Jameson, Sophie Aldred, Seán Carlsen and Miles Richardson, this new set sees the Time Lords face a threat from their own future – while dealing with the political machinations of Livia (Celia Imrie) and her advisor Plutus (Tom Allen).
This six-story set will be released in May 2016 and can be pre-ordered today – with the rest of the Gallifrey range still available enjoy either separately or in a range of money-saving bundles.
And for more Time Lady action - check out the just revealed cover for Doctor Who: The Diary of River Song Series 1! Alex Kingston returns as the Doctor's future wife in four brand new adventures - discover more details here.
More fantastic releases are just around the corner – including the 50th release in our Dark Shadows Audiobooks range. Dark Shadows: And Red All Over picks up the story of Maggie Haskell (Kathryn Leigh Scott) after the events of our acclaimed mini-series Dark Shadows: Bloodlust. Trapped in a cabin when she's meant to be on her honeymoon, Maggie comes across a familiar figure with the face of an old enemy – Burke Devlin (Mitchell Ryan). Check out a free preview below.
To celebrate the upcoming release, the Dark Shadows team have released a special 90 minute-long music suite on the Dark Shadows Sound Cloud, available to download and enjoy today. Range Producer Joseph Lidster has also given us an exclusive interview on his love of the series – read it in full here.
That's all for this week – but join us tomorrow for the long-awaited release of a thrilling new Doctor Who saga – Doctor Who: Doom Coalition 1. The Eleven (Mark Bonnar), a Time Lord criminal who has retained his previous personalities after regeneration, has escaped from Gallifrey! It's up to the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) and Liv Chenka (Nicola Walker) along with their new friend Helen Sinclair (Hattie Morahan) to stop him!
You can pre-order this brilliant five-disc box set today before its release tomorrow – with the rest of the series also available as part of a special bundle. Check out the video trailer below:
And don't forget – the Twelfth Doctor's TV adventures continue every Saturday on BBC1. If you enjoyed last night's Before the Flood, why not take advantage of our Series 9 Saturday special offer on Bernice Summerfield: Epoch?
Trapped in the ancient city of Atlantis (well – one of them anyway), Bernice Summerfield (Lisa Bowerman) finds herself embroiled in the schemes of Greek Gods and Men. With the help of temple priestess Ruth (Ayesha Antione), our hero is put on the trail of the mysterious Epoch – a deadly force with a sinister plan for the city.
Featuring stories by Mark Wright, Jacqueline Rayner, Tony Lee and Scott Handcock, this special box-set also contains the animated short film Dead and Buried – together with a video documentary produced exclusively for this release! You can buy and download today for just £15 on both CD and download.
Another great offer will be available next week, after Maisie Williams joins the TARDIS crew for The Girl Who Died. Check out the trailer below!
