For The Love Of StoriesBig Finish produce fantastic full-cast audio dramas for CD and download.

As announced today at the annual general meeting of The Sherlock Holmes Society of London, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s genius detective will unravel challenging new mysteries and face fierce adversaries in Sherlock Holmes Untold

This brand-new audio drama serial stars Nicholas Briggs as Holmes and Richard Earl as Watson, alongside Timothy Bentinck as Mycroft, John Banks as Colonel Sebastian Moran and Inspector Lestrade, and Christopher Naylor as Prime Minister Jasper Cranfield. Further guest cast will be announced at a later date.

The story begins in 1913, when Watson visits Cranfield to warn of a matter of great importance to the nation’s security. This leads Watson to recall cases from across the career of his close friend Holmes – cases taken from references in Conan Doyle’s canon, but which have never before been told.

Sherlock Holmes Untold is a serialised audio drama and will comprise eight half-hour episodes, released as weekly downloads beginning on Wednesday 1 October 2025.

Following each episode, there'll be an 'after show' discussion in the weekly Big Finish Podcast, in which a special panel of Sherlock Holmes devotees will discuss the episode, invite listeners to contribute their thoughts, and talk to members of the creative team.

Once all the episodes have been released, the series will also become available as a complete downloadable box set.

Sherlock Holmes Untold is now available to pre-order for just £24.99 exclusively here. Customers who pre-order will gain access to the weekly episode downloads, as well as the complete box set download to own.

England, 1913. The horizon is darkening with the prospect of war when Dr John Watson confronts embattled Prime Minister Jasper Cranfield with evidence of a crime that has been spread over decades.

A sequence of interconnected mysteries, from the fate of a music hall murderer, to a man driven mad by a worm unknown to science, to a bizarre and sinister society which meets in a furniture warehouse – these untold cases hint at something larger.

What is the purpose of the enigmatic organisation which calls itself “The Lighthouse”? How much does the Prime Minister know? Is Sherlock Holmes truly retired? And what final confrontation do they face?

A brand-new series of Sherlock Holmes mysteries by Jonathan Barnes, knitting together the most celebrated unchronicled cases of the Great Detective into his most ambitious adventure yet.

Nicholas Briggs, who has played Holmes on audio since 2010, said: “This is an entirely new approach for our Sherlock Holmes range. 30-minute, weekly episodes with exciting cliffhangers, and an audio style which is part traditional Holmes and part 1930s movie serial, with Jamie Robertson delivering a music score steeped in melodrama. The game’s afoot!”

Writer Jonathan Barnes added: “I was thrilled to be asked to return to the world of Sherlock Holmes for this very special release. It's my hope that Sherlock Holmes Untold provides plenty for fans to get their teeth into while also serving as the ideal jumping-on point for new listeners. It's the fastest-moving, most complex piece of storytelling that this range has ever done. Briggs and Earl have never been better and the guest cast is superb. There’s something for everyone here!”

And director and script editor Ken Bentley said: “Releasing weekly episodes has given us the chance to try something new. I grew up watching the Flash Gordon serials with Larry ‘Buster’ Crabbe – it’s a style of episodic storytelling familiar to anyone with an enduring love of cult film and TV, and it’s the perfect way to tell the Untold stories. Jamie Robertson’s sound design and score are among the best I’ve heard. The serial format seems simple, but it’s been some of the most forensic post-production I’ve worked on, and I can’t wait for listeners to hear it.”

Sherlock Holmes Untold is now available to pre-order for just £24.99 as a digital download to own, exclusively from www.bigfinish.com

All the above prices (including pre-order and multibuy bundle discounts) are fixed for a limited time only and guaranteed no later than 31 January 2026.
