Shakespeare Day
Save money on our Shakespeare stories! In honour of Shakespeare Day, which celebrates the birth and death of Britain's greatest dramatist, Big Finish has a present for all literature fans.
Celebrating the birth and death of the great bard, we have special offers on two of our Big Finish Shakespeare classics – tune into Hamlet starring Alexander Vlahos, or King Lear starring David Warner now.
In an ancient Britain of warring nobles and sibling rivalries, power is a precarious thing. When the ageing King Lear declares that he will divide his kingdom in three to prevent future strife, he unwittingly sets in motion a chain of events that will unravel into treachery, horror, conflict and death.
Renowned for its pathos and poetry as much as for its savage violence, Shakespeare’s wildest tragedy remains as thrilling and relevant today as when it was first performed: King Lear is a tale of politics, ambition, greed, vanity, betrayal, love, pride, madness, war and bloody vengeance.
King Lear, the tale of a royal family torn asunder stars a phenomenal ensemble cast, which includes David Warner as King Lear, Louise Jameson as Goneril, Lisa Bowerman as Regan, Finty Williams as Cordelia, Raymond Coulthard as Edmund, Gwilym Lee as Edgar, Paul Shelley as The Earl of Kent, Tony Millan as The Earl of Gloucester, Ray Fearon as The Duke of Cornwall, Nicholas Pegg as The Duke of Albany, Mike Grady as The Fool, Trevor Cooper as Oswald, and Barnaby Edwards as The King of France.
The three hour production of Hamlet also has an exceptional cast, including Alexander Vlahos as Hamlet, Miles Richardson as Claudius, Tracey Childs as Gertrude, Terry Molloy as Polonius, Daniel Brocklebank as Horatio, Deirdre Mullins as Ophelia, Samuel Barnett as Laertes, Jolyon Westhorpe as Rosencrantz, Geoffrey Breton as Guildenstern, Barnaby Edwards as The Ghost, Youssef Kerkour as Barnardo, Alex Jordan as Francisco and James Joyce as Marcellus.
“To be or not to be: that is the question…”
Following the death of his father, the King of Denmark, young prince Hamlet returns home to find his mother married to his uncle: the late king’s brother, Claudius.
When Hamlet is later visited by the ghost of his father, he learns that the murderer was actually the King's own brother and vows to take revenge. However, Hamlet’s contemplative nature works against him, breeding doubt and hesitation at every turn, until the only certainties he has left are madness, betrayaland murder…
From now until 23:59 UK time 24th April 2018 you can get both Hamlet and King Lear at a special bundle price of £26 on CD or £22 on download. Don’t forget that all CD purchases unlock a download option on the Big Finish website and the Big Finish app.
