A new mission for the Star Cops – and this time, it’s personal
Inmates are mysteriously dying in a prison on the moon. It’s time to call in the Star Cops! They have a tough case to crack today, in a full-cast audio drama from Big Finish Productions.
It’s the near future, and mankind has expanded its presence in space. Maintaining law and order beyond Earth is the responsibility of the International Space Police Force, known colloquially as the Star Cops. Their leader is Commander Nathan Spring.
Star Cops – Blood Moon: A Cage of Sky is the fourth instalment in an audio mini-series featuring the characters from Chris Boucher’s 1987 BBC Two series Star Cops. Reprising their roles are original TV cast members David Calder (as Commander Nathan Spring), Linda Newton (Chief Superintendent Pal Kenzy) and Trevor Cooper (Inspector Colin Devis).
A Cage of Sky, from writer James Swallow, sees things get personal for Devis – he’ll have to rely on his fellow Star Cops to be there when he needs them most.
Star Cops – Blood Moon: A Cage of Sky is now available to own as a collector’s edition CD (+ download) at £10.99 or as a download only at £8.99, exclusively here. Please note: the collector’s edition CD is strictly limited to 1,000 copies and will not be repressed.
Devis makes a dubious deal with a notorious hacker, which leads him on to dangerous ground…
Meanwhile, Nathan and his team uncover troubling goings-on at a remote lunar prison facility, where inmates are dying under mysterious circumstances.
Also starring throughout the Blood Moon mini-series are Philip Olivier as Inspector Paul Bailey and Lynsey Murrell as Inspector Alice Okoro, while A Cage of Sky guest stars Caroline Loncq (Mammals, Killing Eve).
Script editor Andrew Smith said: “One of the best things about being a Big Finish script editor is that you’re the first to experience an episode like this. I remember my first read of James Swallow’s A Cage of Sky script, and how much of a page-turner it was. Listeners are in for a treat.
“James is a big fan of Star Cops and an old Big Finish hand. He pitched his idea for a prison on the moon at the initial writers’ Zoom meeting, and the concept was immediately compelling. The episode moves along at a cracking pace, presenting our heroes with jeopardy at every turn.”
Praise for Star Cops – Blood Moon:
“This series is the jewel in the crown of Big Finish. Beautifully crafted with dialogue that zings and a complexity to the scripts that makes you sit up and listen.”
Star Cops Fan Site“[Daughters of Death] is another tightly plotted, increasingly tense entry in a series that’s always impressed but seems to be breaking through to a new level.”
Sci-Fi Bulletin“All of the Star Cops stuff’s been great and it’s just getting better and better because the characters are beyond embedded, they’re developing and moving on.”
