Writer and producer Jonathan Morris said: "Although V – UK has all the trappings of science fiction – motherships, aliens, laser guns – that’s not what it’s about. It is, pretty blatantly, an allegory for living life under occupation or under a fascist government.
"That tyranny will gain power by offering simple solutions and by making scapegoats. And in that situation, you have to ask – what would I do? Would I join the resistance or would I keep my head down for the sake of a quiet life?
"My goal, basically, was to make it feel close to home, uncomfortably so, because that’s the power of the premise. It’s not about aliens invading a distant world. It’s about them marching down the street where you live. This is a story set in a world post-Brexit, post COVID-19, and some of the themes from the original miniseries – such as the vilification of scientists – are even more timely now."
Lead actor Annabel Baldwin said: "I was super excited to be acting in this alien world. I hadn’t actually watched the V TV show before I read Jonathan Morris’s brilliant script, so I sought it out and found a new love for V!
"There are parts of this story that are really relevant to today. There’s a theme about people trying to make sense of what they're being told, and being completely baffled by this whirlpool of information, and it’s also about how important science has been in our world and what happens when scientists become threatened."
Her co-star Jack Myers said: "I feel very blessed to be back at Big Finish and to be able to lead a project. Having Kenneth Johnson come along to the recording was very special, and he had some wonderful stories about the history of the show.
"It’s a brilliantly written, humongous ensemble and gives us so many perspectives of what can occur when insidious regimes arrive. I was blown away by its scale and detail. It very accurately depicts the ways in which ideologies grow within society so you don’t realise just how dark things can be until you’re really in the thick of it. But there is a gorgeous heart to it – that central theme of love that carries you through."
