Writer Lisa McMullin said: "Having written for both the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler in their individual Big Finish adventures, it was a dream come true to write for them together in one story! And then to have Jackie Tyler to add into the mix - pure joy!

"I've previously written a story for the Ninth Doctor that was inspired by my dad, so this one - with Rose and Jackie to play with - has the relationship between mothers and daughters at its heart. Plus an alien force that claims to be 'only playing' when the Doctor isn't in the mood for games. I wanted to play with a Doctor whose safety catch had been removed. How far would the Doctor go if you dared them?"

Director Helen Goldwyn added: "There's been a lot of insight throughout these episodes into the relationship between Jackie and Rose and the complexity of it, just as in real life. You can love someone and love lots of the traits about them, but you don't have to love all of them. That came to a head in Snare and it really comes to a head again in Dare You.

"In this episode, we get to see a wider community from the Powell Estate. We're used to seeing these characters as bit part players, happy Londoners going about their days. But we all have these dark thoughts within us... The Estate’s residents find themselves very quickly heading into chaos, and in fact, the jaws of Hell, because they've lost that safety catch to civilised behaviour."
