The 1983 TV miniseries V, created by Kenneth Johnson, followed the struggles of a group of freedom fighters against a totalitarian alien invasion of Earth. The series has now been reimagined as an audio drama series, with the first of two box sets released today. 

Jonathan Morris’s contemporary and topical adaptation of the beloved science fiction miniseries has been made with the involvement of original creator Kenneth Johnson, who has contributed newly written material.

The box set comprises three thrilling hour-long episodes:  

Episode One   

Alien motherships appear above cities across the globe. The world reacts with panic and fear – until the commander of the Visitors appears and reveals that they come in need of help. Their offer seems too good to be true…  

Episode Two   

One month later, and the Visitors have become part of everyday life. But people are beginning to disappear, and scientists are being persecuted. Documentary-maker Mike Donovan sneaks on board one of the motherships and discovers the horrifying truth.   

Episode Three   

It is now Christmas. The Visitors have taken charge, imposing martial law over the UK. Scientists are forced to go into hiding – and Doctor Juliet Parrish finds herself becoming the reluctant leader of the rebellion.   

The full-cast audio drama stars Annabel Baldwin as trainee doctor Juliet Parrish, Jack Myers as brash documentary maker Mike Donovan, and Janie Dee as Diana, the UK commander of the Visitors. 

They’re part of a large ensemble cast that also includes Hannah Brown as Robin, Jesse Dunbar as Daniel, Louise Faulkner as Kathleen, Raj Ghatak as Tony, Gesella Ohaka as Kristine, Kate O'Rourke as Lynn, Arabella Smith-James as Ruth, Andrew James Spooner as Richard, and Sam Stafford as Benny. 

Lead actor Annabel Baldwin said: “I was super excited to be acting in this alien world. I hadn’t actually watched the V TV show before I read Jonathan Morris’s brilliant script, so I sought it out and found a new love for V! 

“There are parts of this story that are really relevant to today. There’s a theme about people trying to make sense of what they’re being told, and being completely baffled by this whirlpool of information, and it’s also about how important science has been in our world and what happens when scientists become threatened.” 

Her co-star Jack Myers said: “I feel very blessed to be back at Big Finish and to be able to lead a project. Having Kenneth Johnson come along to the recording was very special, and he had some wonderful stories about the history of the show.
