The Sixth Doctor’s monster mash
Davros, the Cyber-Leader and the Androgums return in The Trials of a Time Lord, a full-cast audio drama, due for release in August from Big Finish Productions.
As part of Big Finish’s celebrations of the Sixth Doctor’s fortieth anniversary, The Trials of a Time Lord is an epic audio drama in which Colin Baker’s Doctor – teamed up with both Peri (Nicola Bryant) and Mel (Bonnie Langford) – faces off against several of his greatest foes from his original Doctor Who run on television.
Leading the charge are Davros and the Cyber Leader, with Terry Molloy and David Banks reprising the roles they played in the TV series throughout the 1980s. Fans of Colin Baker’s era will remember Ol’ Sixie encountering Banks’ Cyber Leader in Attack of the Cybermen and Molloy’s Davros in Revelation of the Daleks, both first broadcast in 1985.
And, the carnivorous Androgums return for their first story since debuting in the same year’s The Two Doctors, with impressionist Jon Culshaw deliciously bringing to life the bloodthirsty celebrity chef Stunrib.
Doctor Who – The Sixth Doctor Adventures: The Trials of a Time Lord is available to pre-order now for just £22.99 (collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £18.99 (download only). The collector’s edition CD box set is strictly limited to 1500 copies and will not be repressed.

Responding to a distress call from an old friend, the Doctor and Mel find themselves in ‘Cyberia’, a prison camp run by an even older foe. But this time, the Cyber Leader’s machinations are just the tip of one very sinister iceberg, one that will test the Doctor to his very limit, and beyond…
We hope you’re hiding behind the sofa, because ‘The Trials of a Time Lord’ are about to begin!
The Trials of a Time Lord is a six-part story told over three discs, with the first two episodes scripted by Rochana Patel, the third and fourth by Katharine Armitage, and the final two by Stewart Pringle.
Producer Jonathan S Powell said: “We’re bringing back the Androgums! These alien cannibals were first introduced in The Two Doctors by the late great Robert Holmes, and in Trials we’re treated to the inimitable Jon Culshaw taking a turn at the voracious chefs.
“And of course I had the pleasure of directing those titans of 1980s villainy, Terry Molloy and David Banks, who reprise their roles as Davros and the Cyber Leader. In the same story, no less! I can’t wait for people to hear it."
The Trials of a Time Lord can be pre-ordered in a bundle with The Quin Dilemma, which was released in March and is the first of 2024’s celebratory Sixth Doctor Adventures box sets, for just £44 (collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £36 (download only).
All the above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release.
Please note that Big Finish is currently operating a digital-first release schedule. The mail-out of collector’s edition CDs may be delayed due to factors beyond our control, but all purchases of this release unlock a digital copy that can be immediately downloaded or played on the Big Finish app from the release date.
