The Sacrifice of Sherlock Holmes - Reviews!
We've been in hot pursuit of what the critics thought of our most recent Sherlock Holmes release. Here are a few clues, leading to the inevitable conclusion that you need to add The Sacrifice of Sherlock Holmes to your collection...
Nicholas Briggs and Richard Earl team up anew for The Sacrifice of Sherlock Holmes, taking the iconic roles of Holmes and Watson in the latest of our highly-regarded range of stories involving the Great Detective:
The Classic Mystery Blog felt this latest Big Finish Holmes release was, "A hugely entertaining adventure and Highly Recommended", while Starburst Magazine praised the set, "The Sacrifice of Sherlock Holmes really is a must-listen. Frequently surprising, occasionally emotional and never less than engrossing, Big Finish have delivered a spectacular Sherlock Holmes story unlike any other."
The review at Planet Mondas described the set as, "A high octane roller coaster ride of an adventure that really does leave the listener gasping for breath at the events that take place on that fateful November day in 1921. 9/10"
"As ever, Nicholas Briggs and Richard Earl were superb," commented SciFiPulse, "I’m glad Holmes’ sacrifice wasn’t as literal as he intended. It gives listeners hope of fresh adventures in new climes."
"The entire cast shine here, but special mention must go to Nicholas Briggs who plays a beautifully mercurial Holmes oscillating wildly between bouts of age-induced existential angst and the speed and brilliance of his long-forgotten youth," says Mass Movement.
Cult Box adds, "Nick Briggs as Sherlock and Richard Earl as Watson are as compelling a pairing as any other in the long history of the characters... Nick Briggs portrays well the tension of a man much nearer his final curtain than he wants to be. This isn’t overdone, but like age itself is always present... "
Blogtor Who felt the sound was worth a (deserved) special mention: "Steve Foxon, who led the sound design, has crafted the ideal setting for the themes of this story. A changing age in which Holmes must work to prove his relevance."
