At the end of their last box set, the Paternoster Gang – Silurian detective Vastra (Neve McIntosh), her resourceful spouse Jenny (Catrin Stewart), and Sontaran butler Strax (Dan Starkey) – discovered the identity of the mysterious ‘Trespasser’ who’s been causing them all manner of problems. 

Their enemy is Brottac (Nicholas Briggs), a scheming, shapeshifting Zygon, and he’s not finished with them yet. Over the final three full-cast audio adventures of the arc – released in forthcoming box set The Paternoster Gang: Trespassers 4 – Last Stand – Brottac and the Paternoster Gang will face off across Victorian London. 

Help is on its way, though, as Paul McGann returns as the Eighth Doctor, having last met the crime-fighting trio back in the Trespassers – Rogues Gallery story Till Death Us Do Part. Will his assistance be enough to help Vastra and team vanquish their criminal nemesis and avert tragedy?

The Gang visit an old friend in a haunted mansion. Miss Faversham is suffering a mysterious malady, and her engagement to the curious Lord Briar convinces Vastra she can scent the enemy… 

As Jenny helps supernatural investigator Harriet Cross catch a ghost, they discover something far more dangerous loose inside the walls of Briar Hall. 

A Passion for Fashion by Helen Goldwyn

Society ladies are losing their fortunes and growing mortally sick – apparently infected by insatiable desire for the designs of enigmatic hat-maker, Monsieur Declerq. 

With the help of a shop-girl, the Gang uncover rivalry in the fashion world and a dark trade in cruel importation. They also find that Monsieur Declerq is much more than a flamboyant fashionista. 

The Final Poblom by Lauren Mooney & Stewart Pringle 

The villainous trespasser has finally succeeded in banishing the Paternosters from their home, using the most powerful weapon in his arsenal: the bailiffs. 

Stuck in a seedy boarding house, the Gang soon realise something else is afoot. Things are going missing. Something is munching its way through London, and it may be the answer to all their problems… 

The guest cast of Last Stand includes Beth Chalmers, returning as Miss Faversham from Till Death Us Do Part, as well as Lara Lemon (Insomnia), Kammy Darweish (Doctor Who: Survivors of the Flux), and Susan Harrison (Class Dismissed). Further cast will be announced at a later date. 

Producer David Richardson said: “So at last the Paternoster Gang have discovered the truth about the shapeshifting nemesis, and now face the final battle with Brottac the Zygon! How brilliant to have three Doctor Who aliens – a Silurian, a Sontaran and a Zygon – in a fight for survival. Prepare for an epic finale!” 

The job of closing off this twelve-episode arc went to writing partnership Lauren Mooney and Stewart Pringle. Pringle said: “It’s really exciting to be brought in to finish this huge story off. It’s been a real rollercoaster of twists and turns for the gang right from the start, and the pressure it’s put on Vastra and Jenny’s relationship has been a really fantastic way to bring a new dynamic and a more emotionally complex angle to the story. We really wanted to do that justice while having a lot of fun and staying true to the tone of the series.” 

His co-writer Mooney explains the episode’s title, The Final Poblom: “Through the course of the arc, Brottac’s been a kind of Moriarty figure to Vastra’s Holmes. Even back in the TV show, the Paternoster Gang were in conversation with the Holmes stories. And so we were interested in crafting a Reichenbach Fall-type story.”
