This latest release in The Twelfth Doctor Chronicles is set during the 2017 TV series, with the Doctor residing on Earth under the guise of a university professor. Of course, he can’t keep out of trouble for long, as the Time Agency arrives to take him across the universe on a very dangerous mission. 

You Only Die Twice features Jacob Dudman (The Stranger, Fate: The Winx Saga) once more voicing the incarnation of the Doctor originally played on TV by Peter Capaldi. And Bhavnisha Parmar (best known to Doctor Who fans as Sonya Khan, Yaz’s sister) returns as Keira Sanstrom, the Time Agent who previously encountered the Doctor in the 2021 Big Finish release, Timejacked!.

The box set’s guest cast includes Clare Corbett (Spitting Image), Robert Daws (The Royal), Georgina Beedle (Catherine the Great), and Nicholas Asbury (Alma’s Not Normal). 

You Only Die Twice is Jacob Dudman’s last outing as the Twelfth Doctor for the foreseeable future. On his time in the role, Dudman said: “It’s been a really fun end to an era. It’s bittersweet hanging up the sonic glasses. I’m very honoured to have done it. I’ve been learning to enjoy playing the Twelfth Doctor as we’ve done these and feel like I’ve fallen in love with him through doing it.” 

Script editor Max Kashevsky added: “We’re so happy that Jake agreed to come back as the Twelfth Doctor for this last box set. Every time he comes through that door, he gets better and better. He totally gets this Doctor. All three of these stories were precision engineered to push Jake to his limits as a performer, and he really took it on.” 

On pairing the Doctor once more with Keira Sanstrom, Kashevsky continued: “Keira’s grown a lot since the last time we encountered her in Timejacked!. She had a lot to learn there, but this time, they’re on a much more even footing, and actually it’s the Doctor who starts off on the back foot. Keira’s world, the world of the Time Agency, butts heads with how a Doctor Who story is supposed to work, so you get this hilarious push and pull between them.” 

And actor Bhavnisha Parmar said: “There’s a lot going on with the power play between the Doctor and Keira, a lot more excitement, as well as more humour, detail and nuance. With the other scripts we’ve done, she’s always had a sense of vulnerability about her, that she’s new and naive, and now these stories give her a sense of power and poise, and put her in a really confident space. It’s always nice to give the Doctor a match.”
