Stranger Danger for the Eighth Doctor
Paul McGann, India Fisher and Jaye Griffiths star in The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Deadly Strangers, a brand-new box set of full-cast audio drama, available now.
There are three thrilling new adventures in time and space today for the Eighth Doctor Paul McGann) and his duo of plucky companions – Regency aristocrat Lady Audacity Montague (Jaye Griffiths) and Edwardian adventuress Charley Pollard (India Fisher).
This brand-new box set, entitled The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Deadly Strangers, begins with the time travellers arriving in Milan, 1904. Here, they meet the legendary composer Puccini, played by Tim McInnerny (Blackadder, Doctor Who: Planet of the Ood), in a story written by Matthew Jacobs (who scripted the Eighth Doctor’s screen debut, the 1996 TV Movie).
Then, the TARDIS takes its crew to Iceland, 1975, where Charley and Audacity get involved in the country’s famous women’s strike. And finally, the trio visit a sleep clinic for the super-wealthy, floating above a dying world. Awaiting them here is the Mara, the snake-like entity which stalks its victims’ dreams, as seen in Fifth Doctor TV stories Kinda and Snakedance.
Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Deadly Strangers is now available to purchase as a collector’s edition 3-disc CD box set (+ download for just £22.99) or as a digital download only (for just £18.99), exclusively here. Please note: the collector’s edition CD box set is strictly limited to 1,500 copies and will not be repressed.
The three exciting new Eighth Doctor stories are:
Puccini and the Doctor by Matthew Jacobs
Inspired by his friends, the Doctor takes Charley and Audacity to Milan to meet Puccini and hear the music of love.
But the Doctor is not the only alien entranced by humanity. The mysterious Tura is setting riddles, and for those who answer, the experience is transformative...
Women’s Day Off by Lisa McMullin
Iceland, 1975 – Charley and Audacity are thrilled to discover that the women have gone on strike. All of them. With potentially disastrous consequences for a girl called Kyla – and everyone she comes into contact with.
The Gloaming by Lauren Mooney & Stewart Pringle
The Doctor, Charley and Audacity arrive on Gloaming, a luxury sleep clinic in orbit around a dead world. Gloaming is filled with wealthy Sleepers, dreaming through the dark ages of their world in suspended animation.
But something is growing here, creeping into minds and poisoning dreams. Something the Doctor fought long ago...
The box set’s guest cast includes Sarah Lawrie, Tania Rodrigues, Richard Reed, Molly Harris, George Watkins, Kate Terence, Will Huggins, Abigail McKern, Homer Todiwala, and Graham Seed.
Paul McGann said: “It's really working well, having Charley and Audacity together. Chemistry is never guaranteed, but they rub along well. They’re believable companions. I think it’s because they're both Earthlings, but they're from different eras, so they're differently-mannered.”
India Fisher added: “It feels like we’ve been together a very long time. It’s a really nice dynamic, although I sometimes wonder whether the Doctor likes it quite as much as Charley and Audacity. There’s quite a lot of ganging up on him but in a kind way – sometimes he’s a bit pompous and needs a little bit of flicking!”
