New Production Stars Join Big Finish!
Big Finish Productions has recently welcomed three new talented members to its behind-the- scenes team! Meet them below...
The first newcomer is Supervising Producer Lizzie Worsdell. The award-winning actress and producer made her producing debut on the short film Disarm, starring Sophia Myles. Several of her films are currently doing the festival circuit including BAFTA and BIFA qualifying The Carer directed by Game of Thrones star Amrita Acharia and starring Industry's Priyanga Burford.
Lizzie founded her own production company, Eldub Films, in 2020 and started working as Supervising Producer at Big Finish in July 2022. She’s passionate about making female-centred work and representing a side of society that isn’t typically shown on screen.
Lizzie Worsdell said: “I’ve known Jason Haigh-Ellery for many years and had been aware of the work Big Finish did, however it wasn't until I started working here that I realised quite the extent of the work we do or the size of the fanbase. It makes me really proud to work for a company that’s so well respected and loved by the fans and industry.
“I love the variety of my role as Supervising Producer, I am across multiple projects and areas at one time and no day is ever the same. I am constantly learning new things and discovering new projects from a host of talented creatives. I will soon be producing my first audio series which is an exciting challenge as it is different to working in film and I have also had a chance to do some acting again which has been great.”
David O'Mahony is a British and Irish screen, theatre and audio director, producer, writer, actor and filmmaker. He’s worked with Big Finish since 2022, having directed the short film, The Confessions of Dorian Gray: Before Your Eyes. David now directs across the Torchwood ranges at Big Finish.
With a background in acting, David has also appeared in numerous Big Finish releases and despite his best efforts, seems to always end up doing cameos in his productions. David will be appearing as Porthos in a new version of The Three Musketeers streaming on Amazon in early 2023.
David O'Mahony said: “Whether I'm directing, producing or acting I always like to prepare as much as possible so when we get in the studio or on set, we can relax and enjoy making some magic... or that's the plan anyway! Each role has such different demands and elements – it's like shifting gears depending on what I'm called to do.
“When I was working in the US, a director said that I was a director trapped in an actor's body – I took that as a compliment that I could see all aspects of a production. Directing has always fascinated me and I love the challenge of collaborating with so many different people and bringing out their best work.
“When the wonderful Scott Handcock could no longer direct the Dorian Gray film, he and Jason Haigh-Ellery approached me to take it on. I will forever be grateful and proud of the chance they gave me and what we created in such a short space of time. From then on, I was in the Big Finish family and what a brilliant family it is.”
Noga Flaishon is a London-based writer and producer. She moved to the UK in 2014 from Israel to train in the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Noga worked for several years as an actor before becoming a full-time writer/producer and established her theatre company, Harpy Productions.
In her writing, Noga is fascinated with horror and sci-fi stories that explore mental health, memory, gender politics and complex families. As a producer and writer, her work stretches to audio and the stage and she hopes her endeavours also take her into TV and gaming in the near future. Noga has contributed a story in the forthcoming Big Finish box set, The War Doctor Begins: Comrades-in-Arms.
Noga Flaishon said: “Working with Big Finish can be a slow process at times but nothing beats the moments when things come together. This is such a wonderful environment and everyone is always supportive and available to help the newbies (like myself). It's inspiring every single time. Also, the banter in the producers Zoom meetings is immaculate.
“During the pandemic, a lot of my actor friends and I were bored out of our minds. I processed a lot of this helplessness and feeling of going stir-crazy through writing. During one of our friend group's Zoom game nights, I asked if they wouldn't mind recording an audio drama with me. Then I 'caught the bug' and created a second four-part audio series the following year. I sent it to Big Finish and was offered a shadowing position. I then became relentless in chasing Nicholas Briggs and the team but I'm so glad I did.
“Doctor Who got me through some dark times and through it, I met some truly incredible people. The fandom is one of the best ones out there which inspires me (and the rest of the team I'm sure) to create good content that they would enjoy. I often feel like I'm writing or producing things my 15-year-old self would have gone rabid for. The Big Finish team is wonderful and I'm so grateful to be a part of it.”
