Jeremiah Bourne reviews
Today we look at some of the reviews for Jeremiah Bourne in Time, the third of our Big Finish Originals written by The Young Ones' Nigel Planer. What did you make of this exciting new comedy time-travel series?
Jeremiah Bourne came out last month, and listeners and reviewers have really been enjoying this change in direction – from WW2 period drama to classical legal cases, and now a comedy – in the Big Finish Originals range.
Jeremiah Bourne is a boy with a remarkable gift. He can travel in time. Not by using a time machine, or stepping through a dimensional portal. It just happens to him, as though by accident. One minute he’s in the present day, the next, he’s a hundred years in the past, standing in the London of 1910.
Blogtor Who praised the great writing by Nigel Planer, and also the impeccable cast: “It’s clear from the start that not only did Planer put a lot of thought and care into this work, he has been looking for the ideal medium for it. Not only is the plot engaging and very imaginative, it offers a healthy mix of full cast roles mingled with narration wherever it’s needed. Under the impeccable direction of Barnaby Edwards, Planer’s tale hits everything it needs to in the right place to deliver something fresh to the genre of time travel stories.
“Alongside the superb script, the acting talent present here is second to none, with a good mix of fresh and familiar voices. Alongside Broadchurch’s Sebastian Armesto as the titular Jeremiah Bourne, giving a brilliantly grounded performance, there’s Planer himself, Tim McInnerny, Celia Imrie, Tim Bentinck, Annette Badland, Christopher Ryan and many more stars filling out this stellar cast. They’re all challenged to give an incredible wide range of performances, from the comical to the chilling and the cheerful. This does wonders to set up Bourne’s world as unpredictable and chaotic, which complements the tone perfectly.”

Glam Adelaide gave it a phenomenal 10/10: “The third release from the Big Finish Originals range (after ATA Girl and Cicero Series 1) is another wonderful chance for the Big Finish production team to break off the shackles of previously established shows. After the heavy drama of the first two releases it is nice to see the more humorous side to Big Finish which does not get nearly as much of an outing as it should.”
And SciFi Pulse thinks there’s room for a second series: “I loved how all of these characters interacted and how the various plot twists were set up and paid off. Planer and Morris managed the difficult feat of giving listeners closure while expanding the universe for future box sets. Jeremiah Bourne in Time has the makings of a marvellous new range for Big Finish. The characters and universe are engaging. The top-notch cast, including Planer in the plumb baddie role, is superb. Bring on Volume 2!”
