Today we release of Big Finish's first Shakespeare adaptation!
With a full cast, including Alexander Vlahos as Hamlet, Miles Richardson, Tracey Childs and Terry Molloy, Hamlet by William Shakespeare is one of England’s most famous pieces of literature. Make sure you try this classic tale’s latest adaptation today.
“To be or not to be: that is the question…”
Following the death of his father, the King of Denmark, young prince Hamlet returns home to find his mother married to his uncle: the late king’s brother, Claudius.
When Hamlet is later visited by the ghost of his father, he learns that the murderer was actually the King's own brother and vows to take revenge. However, Hamlet’s contemplative nature works against him, breeding doubt and hesitation at every turn, until the only certainties he has left are madness, betrayal and murder…
This three hour production has a full cast, including Alexander Vlahos as Hamlet, Miles Richardson as Claudius, Tracey Childs as Gertrude, Terry Molloy as Polonius, Daniel Brocklebank as Horatio, Deirdre Mullins as Ophelia, Samuel Barnett as Laertes, Jolyon Westhorpe as Rosencrantz, Geoffrey Breton as Guildenstern, Barnaby Edwards as The Ghost, Youssef Kerkour as Barnardo, Alex Jordan as Francisco and James Joyce as Marcellus.
We talked to director Scott Handcock, about tackling this famous play. No pressure!
“It’s fair to say, when I first started with Big Finish, or even when Alex and I embarked on The Confessions of Dorian Gray, neither of us ever dreamed we'd tackle Shakespeare.. To be the first at Big Finish - and to tackle arguably one of the most important plays in history - has been a real honour and a challenge. I’m thrilled to have been given the opportunity.
“Shakespeare’s language sparkles on audio, and we’re blessed with a terrific cast who really give it their all. Neil Gardner’s sound design and James Dunlop’s music instantly transports you to Elsinore, ready for the tragedy that unfolds. It’s a world away from reading Shakespeare in English lessons, it’s a production we’re all extremely proud of, and will hopefully introduce a whole new audience to one of theatre’s greatest works!”
This release also includes twenty-five minutes of roundtable interviews with the cast as they discuss the production.
Make sure you pick up this gripping play today, at £14.99 on download or £16.99 on CD. Don’t forget all CD purchases unlock a digital purchase, which works perfectly with the Big Finish app.
And Big Finish’s next Shakespeare release is King Lear, with an incredibly talented ensemble cast, filled with Big Finish stars and some new faces, out in November! Tune in to the trailer below.
