Details of this year's Doctor Who – Interludes are revealed today. 

Interludes are hour-long audiobook adventures with special music and effects, bundled exclusively as download extras with selected new Doctor Who box sets.

Big Finish listeners who purchase any of the first 2024 releases in the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctor ranges will receive an Interlude bonus download with each box set.

Written by Andrew Collins and narrated by David Monteath, The Ultimate Poe will accompany The Sixth Doctor Adventures: The Quin Dilemma.  

Andrew originally appeared in the Gallifrey range, when acting as Andy Coleman, but after moving to America, he changed his name to Andrew Collins – and starred as the reincarnated Barnabas Collins in the Big Finish Dark Shadows range.

Like The Quin Dilemma, The Ultimate Poe is a parody of a television Doctor Who title, and here, the Doctor and Mel go in search of Edgar Allan Poe, after discovering someone has been changing the titles of his famous works. Details of how to download this story will follow in April. 

Meanwhile Turlough, pictured above, is written by Jonathan Blum and performed by Dan Starkey and is set to join The Fifth Doctor Adventures: Dream Team in April 2024.

Jonathan, who wrote the fifth-ever Big Finish Doctor Who release, The Fearmonger, was delighted to be asked back.

He said: "I was floored! I haven't actually been pursuing Big Finish work for a couple of decades, since my first couple of post-Fearmonger pitches didn't go anywhere. So when John Dorney emailed me out of the blue, I was delighted! And John was so complimentary about this one.

"One of the things which defined Turlough's time in the TARDIS for me, all the way back to first watching those stories as a kid, was how often the writers would stick him in a subplot which kept him away from the main action. Turlough would be locked up or stuck in the ducting, or wandering round the space station with Mercer, and only later find out what the actual story he'd been in was about. So I thought – why not give him a complete adventure of his own, out of the Doctor's view?"

The final interlude, Fond Memories, has been written by Alison Lawson, is due to join The Seventh Doctor Adventures: The Last Day (Part Two) in June 2024.

The Doctor and Ace are on holiday on the planet Mangessen, where they meet Cait and Jayd, who are visiting too. Cait is restaurant critic, and she and her partner have been there loads of times, so they know the place well. They get caught up in the machinations of an unscrupulous restaurant chain called Fond Memories.

Alison, like Jonathan, has previously written for Big Finish, having written Catch-1782 for the Sixth Doctor and Mel.

Each Interlude will be available as a download only to Big Finish listeners who purchase the listed box set releases from the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctor ranges in 2024.
