New and aspiring writers still have a chance of getting their Doctor Who audiobook story produced and released by Big Finish as part of the annual Short Trips writing opportunity – which closes at the end of June.
The Paul Spragg Memorial Short Trips Opportunity honours the memory of the cheerful, much-loved person at the heart of the Big Finish production office, who passed away suddenly on 8 May 2014.
On this year’s judging panel is Big Finish’s Creative Director Nicholas Briggs, former Doctor Who Brand Editorial Manager at BBC Studios Gabby De Matteis, Big Finish writer and producer Alfie Shaw and incoming producer of the Doctor Who: Short Trips range, Peter Anghelides.
Nicholas Briggs said: “Once again we honour the memory of Paul Spragg, together with his enthusiasm for encouraging new talent at Big Finish. Because of his good friend, and former Big Finish producer Ian Atkins, we’re blessed with this annual search for originality and flair. It always ends well and I’m delighted to be a part of the judging panel.”
Gabby De Matteis added: “It's a total honour to be asked to judge such a special prize! I never get tired of reading stories from new writers with new perspectives on our beloved Doctor Who universe. What a treat to get to look through everyone's entries and see fans' creativity in full flow!”
Alfie Shaw said: “The quality of these entries remains consistent from year-to-year, full of strange and wonderful ideas. Have you got a Doctor Who story that you’re bursting to tell? Get it down and get it sent in. It could be you this year!”
Peter Anghelides added: “How lovely to be invited to join the team who are looking for bright new talent in this special competition. I’m so looking forward to helping spot fresh ideas and bring new Doctor Who adventures to life.”
The competition is now in its seventh year and is open until the end of June. The full list of terms and conditions can be found on the Big Finish website and should be read by anyone planning to send in a new story submission.
Prospective entrants can also listen to previous winning entries, to understand what kind of adventures the judges are looking for here.
