In her latest series of full-cast audio adventures, Professor Bernice Summerfield (Lisa Bowerman) has become the latest member of the Eternity Club, an elite society of explorers and adventurers from across the galaxies. 

But she’s started to become suspicious that something isn’t right at the club, and events come to a head in The Eternity Club 4, released today and containing two thrilling finale episodes.  

When a battlefleet arrives at the Eternity Club’s asteroid home, Benny suspects that their target might be the society’s mysterious Oldest member (Niamh Cusack) – and that the Oldest is in fact someone she’s met before. But is the truth even more complicated than she thinks?

Sanctuary 

A battlefleet has breached the defences of the Eternity Club, demanding the surrender of The Death. Only Bernice Summerfield knows what this is – and even she cannot believe it.

Producer James Goss said: “We looked at the set-up of The Eternity Club and thought there should be someone else pulling the strings. We mulled on bringing in an existing Master or even a befuddled Doctor, and then created something different – the Oldest. I’m thrilled that we’ve got an acting legend to play this most mysterious character.” 

Director David O'Mahony added: “The Oldest is supposed to be completely enigmatic. We purposefully put lots of moments in place to leave their identity open-ended, so the audience are never completely certain who is telling the truth about the Oldest’s identity.  

“I’ve been a lifetime fan of the Cusack dynasty, and Niamh possesses such an incredible softness and power. She has presence and poise without being overbearing. She exudes confidence in her performances with a human and fallible flavour, and that was the exact ambiguity that I wanted the Oldest to have.” 

Alongside Bowerman and Cusack, the cast of The Eternity Club 4 includes Nickolas Grace, Dan Starkey, Derek Elroy, Naana Agyei-Ampadu, Victoria Gee, Simon Kane, Shai Matheson, David O'Mahony, and Dianne Pilkington. 

This release marks the end of Bernice Summerfield’s current set of adventures, though she will return for more…

It’s the longest running drama series with a female lead in any medium. And it’s the longest running science fiction audio series.
