For The Love Of StoriesBig Finish produce fantastic full-cast audio dramas for CD and download.

The Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller – played by Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith – travelled time and space in four fan-favourite series of full-cast audio drama adventures, originally released from 2007 to 2011.

Their third series, released in 2009, begins by following up on Series Two’s dramatic cliffhanger, with the Doctor seemingly dead. Before long, the dynamic duo are together again and facing off against classic Doctor Who monsters including the Krynoid, the Wirrn and the Eight Legs, in between trips to nineteenth-century Germany and the theatres of 1940s Paris.

The series features a number of talented guest stars, including Andrew Sachs, Lysette Anthony, Nigel Planer, Trevor Cooper, Miriam Margolyes, Daniel Anthony, Colin Salmon, Samantha Bond, Phil Davis, and Sanjeev Bhaskar

A newly-repackaged collection of these eight previously-released adventures, Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller: Series Three, is now available to purchase exclusively from the Big Finish website for an early-bird discounted price of just £27.99.

Big Finish executive producer Nicholas Briggs, who directed six of the eight episodes, said: “One of the many exciting things about working on those Lucie Miller Eighth Doctor Adventures was getting to the end of the series, having a huge feeling of satisfaction and achievement, but then asking ourselves, with mounting excitement, ‘What shall we do next time?’”

“We’d ended things on a real cliffhanger for The Vengeance of Morbius, so script editor Alan Barnes and I really wanted to deliver on a resolution. We asked ourselves how far Lucie would go to find the Doctor again, after she believed he’d gone forever. And then, what would it be like for a companion if the Doctor had been separated from her so long he barely even remembered who she was?

“One of the nonsenses of Doctor Who is when they say how old the character is. It’s meaningless that the age of the Doctor should be calculated in groups of 365 Earth days. So I wrote the only sensible thing anyone’s ever said about that ridiculous notion – that alone is a good enough reason to listen to this series. Apart from the fact that it’s got Wirrn, Krynoids and spiders in it!”

The eight stories in the collection are:

Orbis by Alan Barnes & Nicholas Briggs

The Doctor has fallen to his death. His companion, Lucie Miller, has returned to her life on Earth, grief-stricken. Then, one night, an alien visitor arrives at her front door and shoots her.

Could it be that Lucie’s days with the Doctor are not over? She will only find the answer on the planet Orbis. A planet where all forms of life are facing violent extinction.

Hothouse by Jonathan Morris

Somewhere in the south of England stands the Hothouse. Five vast, state-of-the-art biodomes, all steel and glass. Inside, rock star turned environmental activist Alex Marlowe has a plan to save the world from climate change. By any means necessary...

There's something growing inside the Hothouse. Something that could turn back humanity's tide. A voracious alien vegetable called the Krynoid. The Doctor's going to have to stop it. Stop Marlowe. Stop Marlowe's fanatical acolyte, Lucie Miller... Save the world. By any means necessary.

The Beast of Orlok by Barnaby Edwards

With fangs like splinters, claws like knives, the Beast of Orlok gobbles lives. With brimstone breath and eyes aglow, he'll eat your soul – to Hell you'll go!

Germany, 1827. The town of Orlok is under a curse, haunted by the memory of a spate of grisly murders that shattered the community twenty years before. At the time, townsfolk blamed the legendary Beast of Orlok, a nightmarish creature from medieval folklore. And now, it seems, the Beast has returned.

Wirrn Dawn by Nicholas Briggs

“This is full scale war. Wirrn and Humankind locked in a deadly struggle for survival. When did that happen?”

The Doctor and Lucie land right in the middle of one of the human race’s bloodiest periods of history. Trying to make a difference here would be like standing up and calling for a ceasefire on the Somme. Certain death... or worse. Survival can be a messy business.

The Scapegoat by Pat Mills

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to the Theatre des Baroque!

Oh, but if you think you’ve seen and heard all that Paris by night has to offer... the exotic sights of Le Moulin Rouge, perhaps, or the horror tricks of Le Grand Guignol... if you think nothing could cause your mouth to dry and your heart to pound... you're wrong.

The Cannibalists by Jonathan Morris

The Haven hangs in space. A vast star city, devoid of life. Organic life, that is. From their high spire, looking out over silent streets and empty plazas, the Assemblers are waiting for the day when the humans arrive. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting...

When the TARDIS brings the Doctor and Lucie to the Haven, it seems like the Assemblers’ long wait might be over. Living beings! Without batteries! Protocol be praised!

The Eight Truths by Eddie Robson

London, 2015. A chance encounter with an old sparring partner leads Lucie to the Eightfold Truth – a bunch of crystal-bearing cranks who reckon a rebel sun is on its way to purge the Earth. As if! But what if they’re right?

The apocalypse is upon us. As humankind counts down the last days of its existence, the Doctor races to unmask the Eightfold Truth – and uncovers an old and deadly enemy.

Worldwide Web by Eddie Robson

Thanks to the Eightfold Truth, Metebelis crystals cover the Earth, and the Eight Legs, giant spiders from that distant world, are poised to take control of the planet.

As the Doctor attempts to deal with the invasion and its connection to a long-lost stellar manipulator he last saw above Orbis, Lucie Miller finds herself playing host to the Great One. Can she break free of the spider leader’s control, or will she be lost forever?

Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller: Series Three is now available to purchase for the early-bird discount price of £27.99 (digital download only). From 01 November 2024, the standard RRP of £34.99 will apply.
