Working for Cardinal Rasmus (Damian Lynch), Susan has been a key agent in Gallifrey’s diplomatic operations. Now, she finds herself paired up with a hardened warrior – the War Doctor (Jonathon Carley). 

Susan must learn to work alongside this very different incarnation of her grandfather as they investigate political machinations on an alternative version of Skaro, and then find themselves in an uneasy alliance with the Voord. Throughout it all, the Daleks (Nicholas Briggs) are an ever-present and deadly threat.

Carole Ann Ford, who has played Susan since the very first Doctor Who episodes in 1963, said: “I’m getting quite used to coming back as Susan – it’s just like coming home. Jonathon is extraordinary. He has an amazing talent. Because he actually has quite a light voice himself, how he produces John Hurt’s voice is a wonder.” 

Her co-star Jonathon Carley added: “To bring those two characters, who at one time were so close, back together as battle-hardened versions of each other is really exciting to explore. It’s completely unexplored territory. Both of them have had lives and experiences following different paths, and here they are confronting each other with the weight of that experience and trauma.”
